Le Coucou NYC ; Seamless & Soothing

Le Coucou NYC ; Seamless & Soothing

A trip to NYC wouldn't be complete without a stop to one of the new additions on the Michelin Guide! Le Coucou had been on my radar for a while. When the dates for my trip were confirmed, I made reservations online for a nice lunch. Immediately upon entering Le Coucou, I was transported into a space of warmth & elegance. From the attentiveness of the staff to the welcoming bartender I was delighted but not overwhelmed. After checking in our coats, we were promptly seated & served menus. Having reviewed the courses & Instagram tags beforehand I had an idea of what I wanted, but our waitress was pleasant & knowledgeable of the menu & helped my guest decide there course.

We started with a half bottle of R.H. Coutier which was suggested by the gracious Sommelier & complimented the meal nicely. For the first course, I had the St-Jacques, souvenirs de l'Aber Wrac'h which provided a nice play of textures & was served at the perfect temperature. My guest had Quenelle de brochet "Route de Reims" which I tasted & was stunned by how well the flavors worked together. The caviar had the optimal amount of tang & once again the textures for her plate played perfectly with one another. I highly recommend trying this course.

Halibut, beurre blanc

For the second course, I ordered the Halibut, beurre blanc which had to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing yet practical plating presentation I've seen. The Halibut was light & almost fluffy while the daikon provided as a nice contrast to the fish. My guest ordered the Crépinette de Volaille au Foie Gras et Fruits which unfortunately I didn't try as I was so caught up in my own meal, but they were delighted with there choice as well.

Overall my experience at Le Coucou was seamless & soothing. I've had my share of Michelin restaurant experience to where you feel as if you're being monitored so often that it takes away from focusing on your company or the meal. I appreciate the relaxed & quality food that Le Coucou brings to the restaurant scene in NYC, and I can't wait to go back for dinner.
