Why I'm "Kinda Keto"
What is KETO?
The Ketogenic Diet is often referred to as the Keto Diet & was voted one of the most popular diets of 2018. Maybe it was the Kardashian's & other celebs raving about the positive effects or all of the snatched bodies we saw on Instagram. The goal of the Keto diet is to limit your intake of carbohydrates increase your healthy fats to where your body enters a state of Ketosis. When your body is in Ketosis, you become extremely efficient at burning fat for energy. Pretty easy huh? Here comes the difficult part... SO MUCH OF OUR DIETS ARE CRABS! Eating less than 50g of Carbs leaves you not eating any bread, high sugary deserts & only certain veggies at dinner. As an Italian food lover, the hardest part to give up was my love affair with Pasta.
Why I'm Kinda KETO?
The low carb effects of the Keto diet are #amazing but giving up fruit not so much. What Keto has provided me is perspective on what my body needs & doesn't. Dairy can be taken in doses & carbs need to be kept to a minimum. I've introduced fruit into my diet though I only go for low carb alternatives (think strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc.) and now I prefer healthier options to my usual staples like riced cauliflower & palmini pasta. If I've learned anything on the Keto diet, it's that there's an alternative to just about everything & 9/10 they're rather tasty. Eating a leaner, protein-good fats diet keeps my energy levels up & allows me to focus without the coffee. Would I recommend Keto? If you're preparing for your Summer body or Spring break absolutely & for those of you that eat meat you may find it's a sustainable option. As a "Day to day vegan" I found the diet rather difficult to maintain as my options were severely limited. I don't think Keto is sustainable in the long term for most people, but it has brought upon the conversation of "Do we need as many Carbs?"
I say give it a try for a month & let me know how you feel!
